What is the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Requirement?

Commencing January 1, 2011, lawyers and paralegals must complete in each calendar year at least 12 hours of continuing professional development in eligible educational activities. No less than 3 of the 12 hours must be on topics related to professional responsibility, ethics and practice management. Six hours of the required twelve may be completed solo.

New*** beginning 2018 licensees of the Law Society of Ontario must obtain 3 professionalism hours on topics of equality and inclusion. This requirement must be completed by the end of 2020.  Licensees will be required to complete one EDI Hour per year of accredited programming thereafter.

*CLE programs are subsidized by the Frontenac Law Association
